Our Counsellors
Merilee Bennett
“Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final.”
My counselling practice builds upon many years working as a creative artist, film maker and photographer, and as a tertiary teacher and group facilitator. My approach as a counsellor is based on the belief that being human sometimes hurts more than we can tolerate. We all go through loss, whether it’s from a death, end of a relationship, mistreatment, or a major life change. We have fear and profound disappointments, we might feel isolated, overwhelmed, or even numb. We all go through times when we need somebody to be there for us, in a way that is different to the support we might get from friends or family.
As your therapist, I bring professional skills and perspectives, and also my own humanity, my ability to recognise that what you are going through is your particular experience of being human, relatable and worthy of compassion.
Please call or text Merilee on 0476 001 434, with your name and number, and a suitable time for her to call you back. And read about our fees and other relevant information before your session.
Jim Fizdale
“It is astonishing how problems that seem unsolvable become solvable when someone listens.”
After a full life as a martial artist, professional dancer, wharfie, husband, parent and grandparent, and after a 35-year career as a leadership educator and coach for businesses all over the world, I am focusing now on helping individuals make the choices that lead to meaningful and lasting change. I work with adults on the problematic life issues so many of us face. This may be change in life stage, change in marital status, loss of a loved one, illness, anxiety, addictions, relationship troubles or low self-confidence.
I use an approach tailored to each client; drawing on and integrating various approaches. Counselling research tells us that a strong therapeutic alliance helps clients develop deep understanding. I work hard to develop that alliance with each client so that they can meet and address their challenges, and discover their authentic self.
Please call or text Jim on 0482 723 242, with your name and number, and a suitable time for him to call you back. And read about our fees and other relevant information before your session.
Sue Drummond
“The gentle and sensitive companionship of an empathic stance… provides illumination and healing. In such situations deep understanding is, I believe, the most precious gift one can give to another.”
I have worked as an educator, counsellor and community development worker for 35 years. I have qualifications in Social work, Gestalt therapy, yoga teaching and mindfulness based therapies. I’ve worked in mental health, family violence and adolescent services and extensively with migrant and refugee communities. I believe that creating safety and trust between the client and myself is the most important aspect of therapy. I bring warmth and humor to my work with clients and I have a gentle and empathic approach.
